MCC students and staff celebrated Heritage Day on March 17th, the anniversary of an African uprising against slavery. On Saint Patrick's Day (March 17th) 1768 African people on Montserrat attempted to secure freedom but the plot was foiled resulting in the execution and deportment of many. The MCC celebrated this anniversary with a number of reflective activities to include a performance of Freedom Songs by the the Alliougana Singers a group of Montserratians displaced by the volcanic eruption and now resident in the UK; A visit to the Memory Project at the Montserrat National Trust; A talk on Ghana and a Heritage Lunch of Dukuna and Salt-fish with the National Dish, Goat-water.
